My Counselling Approach

(Dis)ability Justice

  • All bodies are unique and essential.

  • All bodies have strengths and needs that must be met.

  • We are powerful, not despite the complexities of our bodies, but because of them.

  • All bodies are confined by ability, race, gender, sexuality, class, nation-state, religion, and more, and we cannot separate them.

  • Acknowledging that people have multiple identities and how they intersect to shape experiences of privilege and oppression.

  • Collaborating across social justice movements to challenge ableism and create united fronts.

  • Working together towards liberation for all, regardless of abilities, race, gender, class, or orientation.

Humanistic

  • A holistic approach that sees people as a whole and focuses on self-discovery, self-efficacy, and maximizing well-being.

  • Focuses on a person's unique potential and abilities.

  • Emphasizes wisdom, healing, personal growth and overcoming difficulties through self-discovery.

  • Aim to help people develop a strong sense of self and explore their feelings.

  • Focuses on positive traits and behaviours, encouraging growth and fulfillment.

  • Emphasis on wisdom, healing, and personal development.

Person-Centred 

  • Focuses on the importance of the person's unique experiences, feelings, experiences, and perspectives.

  • Emphasizes building a genuine and strong therapeutic relationship based on empathy, trust, acceptance, and understanding.

  • Empower people to explore their thoughts, feelings, emotions and experiences in a safe, empathetic, accepting environment.

  • It aims to help people develop self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-direction, leading to personal growth and positive change.

  • Views each person as capable of the ability to make positive changes and personal growth.

Strength-Based

  • Focuses on identifying and building upon persons' strengths, resources, and capabilities.
